JKU - great pic of the Angel Eyes. Is that the BlackFlame unit? What do you think of the kit? Any problem with buzz from the ballasts?

And just so I'm clear: by PWM you mean the stock power management module, yes?
PWM is pulsewidth modulation; the OE headlight circuit pulses voltage from 4.5v to ~ 12.68v.

We have to know how they wired your lights to know what's gone wrong. Do you have or can they draw you a diagram? Are there relays?
Relays will buzz with tenacity and die young if you rig them to PWM power and don't use capacitors.

And this was done at a Jeep dealership? What HID lights did they install?
Interesting.

Hey Hilldweller,
I don't know what the bulbs are but the HID controllers are Hella VVME-135K. The spec's are listed on the unit. The first thing I notice is the voltage in is from 9-16v. Which, if my OE circuit is pulsing as low as 4.5v, seems like the first problem to me, no? (Just my layman's view... I know nothing about electrical). Here's what it says on the controller:

Bulbtype: 35W
V in: 9-16v
V norm: 13.2v
I in max: 10A
I norm: 3.2A
P out: 35W
T case: -40C to +105C
Vstart 23KV max

I didn't see any relays but I did see what appears to be a wiring harness controller. Yes, it was done at my dealer. They're mod friendly and were offering HID installs up until 6 mos ago. They may have had a problem though as the display at the service counter wasn't there the last time I went in - and when I asked, they said they weren't offering it anymore and I should talk to the tech off hours.

That said, they have been trying to help me resolve the problem.

I don't like them. They're just too "Buck Rogers."

Plus, I could light up my Jeep like a UFO for how much those things cost.

You're going to kill them if you keep them wired like that; you need a full-on bypass harness like the Rallylights kit.

Your dealership realized they didn't know what they were doing and stopped selling them at least.
Are they running the HIDs in the OE reflectors? I can't believe a dealership would do that, especially wiring it that way.
They're simultaneously voiding your warranty and breaking federal laws...

I'd yank that abomination out before your electrical system gets buggered.

Thanks Hilldweller. I appreciate your input. I've seen some of your other posts re lighting and electrical and I'm taking your advice seriously. Unfortunately, I can't find anyone local who can tell me what I need to do to make these work properly (no buzzing) and safely. You mention a rally light harness and that's a good lead but I don't know enough for that to get me to the solution. And I think we've firmly established I don't have access to knowledgable professional help :-( At least in so far as HIDs go. I need to give them a make and model of the harness.

So lacking that and after reading your posts, I've decided to man up for those SAE / DOT rated LED lights. My shop says they can get their hands on them and their source 100% guarantees we'll love them or they'll give me a full refund. Best of all I'm told they're plug and play (or almost).
