Default Question on adding an amp.

I went to a local shop and looked at speakers and amps. We were talking price and the sales guy added at the end that with the Jeep they have to bypass the factory amp and this was a $100 additional charge on installation. Sounded a little off but to be honest I don't know a thing about stereo installation.

Any help would be appreciated.

Chris

Yeah that sounds about right. They most likely have to use a harness adapter to bypass the amp, and this will likely be the same anywhere you go to...unless they hook it up wrong

Only if you have the infinty system. If not they would most likely do a line out converter (if keeping factory radio, if not this does not apply). If not everything needed is usually always packaged on the new headunit.

I had an amp installed in my jeep with a line out converter, and I have the infinity system. I had no problems with mine.

If you have a new head unit, you can run rca's to your amp and then add subs to the rear and not have to touch the other speakers....or amp. If you want to add a 4 channel amp and power all your speakers fronts and sound bar, then that's different. What are you looking to add?

If u have an aftermarket head unit that is not a mygig, u should have all the needed plugs on the back of the head unit and you do not need to run a LOC ( line out converter) to bypass the amp. Aftermarket head units have RCA outputs that are made for this exact thing. U just run the RCAs to the amp and this carries your audio signal. I had to add a LOC when I added my amp because i have a factory head unit. Which head unit do you have?

Yeah u have three RCA outputs. U do do NOT have to "bypass the infinity amp". don't let them charge u for that. Because u have that head unit it should be a standard install for them.
