replacement keys
If you don't have 2 keys you'll need to call a locksmith or the dealership. Before you call the locksmith, make sure you have the four digit PIN code to your vehicle. The dealership has the PIN code and will give it to you for FREE with proof of ownership to the vehicle. The can also give you the key code which is helpful at the same time.
Add a key when you already have two:
1) Insert one the programmed transponder keys into the ignition lock cylinder and turn the switch to the "ON" position
2) The key should be in the "ON" position for 5 seconds but not more than 15 seconds. Turn back to the "OFF" position.
3) Within 10 seconds, insert second programmed transponder key into the ignition and turn to the "ON" position. The VTSS ( Vehicle Theft Security System ) or Immobilizer System lamp (depending on model ) should start to flas. An audible tone will indicate the system has entered the " Programming Mode ".
4) Within 45 seconds, turn the switch to the "OFF" position. Insert the new transponder key and turn the switch to the "ON" position. After approx. 10 seconds and audible tone will sound and indicator lamp will illuminate briefly. This will let you know key has been programmed.
5) To add aditional keys, repeat steps 1 - 4.

I just made a third key . i bought a key off ebay for $12.95 . Took the key to the hardware store and got it cut for free. Then followed the post by GNNR and Presto !!! i have a third key. Nobody , i mean nobody should bother going to the dealers to get this done. it was fast and easy. and it works. Buy the key off ebay and program it yourself. I mentioned this to my dealership last week what my intentions were and they laughed at me ! they said its impossible and they have a special cutting machine and are the only place that can program it in the city. tomorrow i might go there and shove it in their face. And tell them " No wonder why your nickname is stealerships !!! This Forum is F**kin Awesome !! they wanted $160 for the key, $25 to cut it with their "special machine" lol ! and another $65 to program it. i paid 13 bucks ...

When I use the new key, and turn the ignition to the ON position, none of the instrument cluster lights come on, however when I continue to rotate the key to the START position, my JK fires right up and everything is fine. Took the Jeep out for a spin to the grocery store and used the new key during the entire round trip - no other issues noted other than the lack of the dash "Christmas Light" effect at start-up.
Anyone else experiencing this "issue"? The key is basically a spare so won't be using it daily, but just wondering if it will work okay as a second key if some mishap occurs to one of the two original keys.

Edit: When I programmed my new key a couple of days ago, I had the "symptoms" stated above in this post, but driving around today everything is fine. All dash lights illuminate as they should even during start-up. Not sure what caused the hiccup, but it has apparently been resolved.
