I know this is an old thread, but I have a question. I just bought an XRC8, and it appears that the wiring diagram in the documentation is not very clear. The small block wire coming off the controller shows it should be going down to the bottom side of the motor. There is no stud down there like for the battery posts. I think there is a hex head bolt. Is this where this wire is supposed to go? Is this just a ground tied directly to the winch? PIA to get to on the bottom side. If it is a ground I should be able to ground it to the winch anywhere that is conductive to ground, right?

Yes. That hex bolt is where you ground it. Put all o your wires on before you mount the winch and it will be a lot easier for you.
