Back to the store to get a relay and an inline fuse....

Oh yeah, 1 more question : what's the point of the relay if I'm not using a switch in the cab to control the lights?

Your lights may draw more than the fuse tap can handle.
The trigger side of the relay draws very little current.

And if you were using a switch...
You want the lowest current possible going through the switch in the cab.
