Default Teach An Old Dawg New Tricks.......

I'm thinkin about gittin some kinda mp3 player, but I know nothing about them. I want somethin simple to use and small. That's the whole point. To do away with my CD case. I hate big baggage. What is the simplest, smallest and best bargain?

I have the big iPod video, but hard drives can fail. I would probably suggest the iPod nano. It has flash memory with no moving parts. So it's good for bumps and such.

I've had other MP3 players and Apple's user interface is the easiest to navigate.

Just get the screen covered or a case when not in use.

They can be...

My wife was looking at the Creative Zen, that might be more in your range... or a Sandisk. I would probably go Creative and they have expandable memory and play divx movies.

Do you want it purely for the Jeep or something totally portable? Either way I guess iPod is the way to go. Go with the big dog (the $249 one) and you'll have room for years.

before you balk at the price of an ipod, go to a best buy or some electronic store. play around with different models and brands. see how easy it is to use and operate using one hand (could be the case if you're driving). Then look at the accessories and aftermarket stuff you can use with it to connect it to a car stereo or home equipment.
you'll probably come to a conclusion as to why people still buy an ipod even though it's a little more expensive than the other brands.

Personally, I am not a big fan of the Ipods. Call me crazy, but they are too expensive for what you get and I don't like having to convert my music from its original format to another format to go into ITunes.

I have several different type of mp3 players (Zune, Sandisk, and Rio; my wife has an ipod), and for a cheap one that is small, I would recommend the Sandisk. I use it for running, it is REAL small, mine is 2 gig but they have other models too. It is a flash drive so skippiing is not an issue.

Look up Archos. They are media players, not specifically mp3 players. They play just about every format of audio and video. They aren't marketed as well as iPod but (IMHO) they have always been a few steps ahead of the iPod.
