Default Waterproof

I really want to get sub subs, an amp, a new head unit, and speakers installed soon but my jeep tends to get wet sometimes with the top off. Any solutions you guys have? Does anybody sell weatherproof speakers? Thanks

look into marine speakers and amplifiers. most of them are made so that they can get wet and still work fine!!

I know JL audio sells good marine grade stuff but you are going to pay for the quality.

Marine components would certainly be the best, but your Jeep isn't a boat.

If you protect the components from standing water and falling rain - you will be fine.

I might go for the waterproof speaker, but just shield the amp. Any condensation will be dissipated with the heat of the amp. If you check, the manufacturer should have operating ranges. Since it is a vehicle component - that will probably be from 5-95% humidity at least. So as long as it isn't having water directly on it, or directly sitting in water it will be fine.

Do you think the stock head unit, vehicle computer, etc, are waterproof? Hell no. But they are shielded from direct rain, and either drain quickly or never have water sitting around them.

Very good information thanks!! What do you propose I do about the subs? Do you think they will be fine from rain if they are downfiring? No my jeep is going to get soaked regularly. But I'd rather be safe than sorry

Marine components are so expensive that I would skip them all together. If you are running top off, you will get soaked time to time. The speakers however are going to be WAY more tolerant of this than most aftermarket boxes. MDF or particle board doesn't hold up to moisture at all - certainly not standing water. We are talking hours not months or years.

I would focus on finding a synthetic or fiberglass box, or building one, and just chancing it for the speakers. If you can find a waterproof box with down-firing speakers you are going to be okay for everything but total submersion. And in that case, I am sure the speakers will be the least of your worries.

Most of the aftermarket speakers I have installed have been either some sort of composite or even pressed or spun aluminum. Subwoofers in particular need to be very stiff, so you could certainly find an aluminum cone in the size you want. Put that in a waterproof/resistant box and I would have faith that it would withstand being submersed as long as the sub wasn't pulsing.

If MDF or particle board is all you can find or build, I would just coat it well with bedliner or similar waterproof coating. If you can get your system to last 5 years, chances are you will be ready to change it up anyways.

Haha my system I just for top off. I have all Marine stuff. My box is line-Xed which of you've never heard that, is like rhino lining it do that moisture can't get to the inside. My amp I up on a block of plastic under the seat so that water won't touch it unless my car completely floods.
