Take off the tail light and see where the wires go. One thing is for sure with it being exposed like that you asking for some sore of a short (and if unprotected by a fuse, possibly a fire) down the road.

Might I make a different analogy....
It could be an amplifier or sine wave regulator.
Do you have a kicker in the rear of the Jeep?

If not, then ignore my suggestion.
But if You do, then this might be a circuit to
help keep the sound distortion free.

Just my 2 cts.
