Windshield light bracket mounting methods?

I have the Smittybilt brackets. Had a old bike tire inner tube in the garage and cut out a gasket to put between the paint and the bracket.

X2 I have the KC brackets and i cut a piece off a bike tube to use as a gasket.

A bicycle tire tube was also my initial idea of a potential gasket. Thanks for the feedback everyone.

Is the point to this to have something between the light bracket and the windshield hinge to prevent damage to the paint, or to create a seal so water doesn't get in behind it?

I was thinking of using some strips of foam to make sure the paint doesn't scratch, but should I be worrying about water getting in behind where the foam is? Maybe I'm overthinking it...

rugged ridge brackets come with foam on the back of them plus i out hellas up there

The primary purpose that I was looking for was to not mar the paint in an effort to avoid potential rust down the road but you make a good point about water.

I want to put a light bar on the roof, so which windshield bracket will let you put both on or do you just put the bracket over the light bar bracket. Also where do you run the wires on both of those? Pictures of this would help a ton. Thanks
