I am curious if anyone has actually seen rust or corrosion after removing the brackets?

I removed my KC brackets (was using packing foam) to install my current HID lights. I saw the paint started to show the pattern of the foam etched into it!!!

Now its been a year and the light brackets have been installed without any backing between the bracket and the paint. Its a hassle to remove it, so I was wondering if anyone has removed a metal to metal contact and seen any rust or what?

If there's nothing, then I might just move my HIDs to my new MBRP light bar.

Thanks ECHO. I will try to take mine off just to hit them with some paint. It should hold me over until I save up for new lights and a repaint of the windshield hinge itself.

Tomorrow I am installing KC lights with KC window mounts.
I picked up like a step mat made of rubber, real thin,
I cut it to the size of the mount where it will contact the jeep, and drilled holes for the factory hardware.

I think it should go smooth, the wiring is freaking me a bit, but I hope it goes well.
pics will follow.

Mounted mine with the use of clear caulking to keep moisture out. Did that because the brackets I originally mounted on my old TJ rusted the hinges behind the metal to metal contact. When I put on the new hinges and brkt's did the caulking. No problems from then on so with the new jeep did the same. Keeps the water out.

Cannot comment on rust. Not on long enough but when I was looking I went with the rr with the foamy back on them. I think warrior was the other manufacturer who had something on the back. The later being a 'beafier' mount I think. Painted them to match and clear coat on top so not too woried about rust. If water gets in between probably not good but easy enough to replace the bracket.

Could do what I did for my paddle handles. Didn't what the painted inserts getting mucked up so I bought a pack of outdoor electrical box gaskets. Less then a buck for a 2 pack. Used spray tack to attach them to the back of the handles. (Had it left over from a headliner repair so don't really recall what spray tack runs.) Went looking for toolbox tray liner but the price was right.

I like the bike tire idea though, seems less likely to let water between.

Ive got the KC brackets as well. I put them on with out any backing, they are a permanent fixture. I just put on some LightForce 140's. They worked out great.
