I got my switched power for my switch from the back of the power outlet on the dash. If you want constant power go to the battery...

If I run that third wire back to the battery won't the little led light always be on and drain the battery? Sorry for the elementary questions, I just don't want to jack anything up.
I think it will only be on when the switch is on, right?

I was really reluctant to drill a hole in the dash to the left of the steering column, even though that seems a pretty convenient place to put a switch. I ended up pulling the drivers side A pillar cover and there is a ton of room behind there. Routed the wires through the firewall hole on the drivers side and straight up behind the pillar (sorry for the crappy pic);

The only concern I have with this location is the LED light on the switch - it might be a distraction while I'm driving - I've run my driving lights off the high-beam wire so the blue LED will flash on and off with the high beams. If I end up finding it annoying, I'll disconnect it.

And to answer the previous poster, the led light on a lighted switch should only be on when power is passing through the switch.
