I was surfing around the Jeep website and found a factory harness:

Tow Bar - Collapsable. Allows Wrangler........
Also order 82211156 RV to Jeep wire harness to operate taillamps.

No prices or further information. Maybe I'll give the dealer a call and get a quote.

Right now I'm using a cheap set of magnetic tow lights but I'm interested in a cleaner solution.

I would agree, the harness option looks better.

As soon as someone gets one of these harnesses, I would appreciate a write up on it here with pictures. If I happen to be the one then I will do it.

Thanks! I have been eyeing this harness you sell. Sounds just like what I was looking for. I wanted a plug and play and did not want to mess with it too much. I just ordered it.

Now I just need to pick out a tow bar.

This harness is an excellent idea. Unfortunately, it's EXACTLY what I did using a FACTORY trailer harness and a 4-wire trailer kit from Lowes. It is a direct plug and play, but only cost $59. No cutting of factory wires, simply plug in the factory trailer harness, then plug in the 4-wire trailer wiring, route, adn install the connector of your choice on the other end. Now, how is that different?

The only benefit of going with this harness, is that it's going to save you a trip to your dealer and Lowes. Of course, on the up beat, you get to spend an extra $10 AND pay for shipping/handling.

I totally disagree with your logic. I would take the Cool Tech, LLC harness set-up (actually I did) over your idea of a harness set-up. Cool Tech LLC's price is well within reason and again, their set-up is hands down superior to the set-up you have put together and advocate. You get a better offering and more bang for your buck and time by going with the Cool Tech, LLC offering.

I am all for cheaper but I have very limited time off and if I can sit at my computer at night when I get home at 9pm and order just what I need with out driving all over creation, that makes me happy. The little money differance is no big deal and if I count all the time and gas I spent rounding all the stuff up then its probably a wash. If the components are better then its a bonus. Not knocking your Idea as it works but the commercial harness is just as valuable to me as well for different reasons.

Default Wiring for Towing

I ordered the Jeep harness PN 82211156 last week. Of course it was back ordered but I checked with the dealer yesterday and they stated the harness will be shipped on Monday the 23rd. They stated it didn't appear to be too many backorders so I should get mine by Friday of next week. I forgot to ask what the price was when I ordered, over the phone, I was checking to my order status on my black gas cap door. I just picked it up on the way to the airport and it looks nice. Will install on Friday when I get home.
When I get the price for the harness I'll post it.

Part of time my Sahara will be a tow-behind. Blue Ox or Roadmaster?
