Default Jenny the JK

2 months ago i was driving the same riced out MK4 Jetta that i have had since I was 16. A week ago, i decided i needed some mud in my life. I sold the POS Jetta, and picked up a 2012 JK sport. Hands down the best decision i have made thus far in my life.

Here's the thing, I have no knowledge on lifts, tire sizes, offsets, etc. I am eager to learn, but I'm going to need some help from you fine people.

Here is the new to me, old to whoever Jeep-

If some of the pictures are sideways, I apologize.
And the girl in the picture is my girlfriend, not me.

Today, I threw on some KC lights. Needed something to hunt down these crazy F*%$ing clowns I've been seeing all over the news.

So there you have it. I'll be adding on to this thread as I go on with the build. I'm looking at front bumpers right now. Something with a cool bull bar and fogs.

Anyways I'm happy to listen to any advice you guys throw my way and I'm stoked to be a part of the community!

Congrats and welcome. There is a wealth of knowledge available here. I started out knew to JK's in April and I've learned a ton.
I really like the offset mounts on the lights! Do they block your view any during day?

I'd say define what your goals are with the jeep and prioritize mods based on need.

Good luck and start saving! ;-)

Welcome to the JK-F an we are looking forward to seeing the progress.

Research research and more research on what you want to do. There are a few stickies in the Modified JK section which can answer a lot of your questions. The other thing to remember is that at one point we were all newbies and had questions. The only stupid one is the one not asked.

Good advice! Right now I'm trying to decide between getting wheels and tires, or just tires for my stock wheels. I really like the look of knobby tires on stock wheels and spacers.

I'm somewhat in the same boat. Sticking with stock wheels for now. Just keep in mind the width of the stock wheels (7.5) may limit your tire size depending on how big you want to go. Planning out the tire size first may help make your decision.

Good advice from everyone on here to research and research! Also, what is nice is to find someone to latch on to that knows their stuff. A friend, or mechanic or experienced Jeeper. Im new to NJ (from Texas) and I went into our nearest Jeep dealership and introduced my self to the parts guys. When i was ready to get my mods (which will be done Monday ), at least i was sort of a familiar face. When I go in Monday, Im bringing the guys in the service and parts like 4 boxes of Dunkin Donuts. I wanna make sure that the work they did on my Rig is appreciated, because this is just the start for my rig!

Also, like everyone said on here, asking questions is the best way. But if you can nail down a tech/mechanic, you're going to be in good shape because there are a lot of things that fall through the cracks and details you don't get while internet surfing. However, sites are starting to do a better job at filling out installation and instructions and now video tutorials. YOUTUBE WILL BE YOUR SAVIOR! haha

Have Fun!
