The Rubicon/Little Sluice Challenge Ultimate Junk-Yard Build
BTW: The "Super Duty" name came out in '98. A '79 is just simply an F350

I'll ask Jim about the axles...I do know that he said the shafts that came with the 14-bolt were in good enough shape to keep as spares.
I checked with Jim Cox (he loves it when I text him on Monday - his only day off). He confirmed that yes, we are going with 35 spline. The front chromo shafts are coming from Superior, and the rear chromos are from Randy's Ring and Pinion. He reminded me that we'd had an earlier conversation about going with a higher spline count or not, but since 75% of the KOH cars with 14-bolt rears are running 35 spline, then I should be fine with them also. And yes, we are keeping the shafts that came with the axles as spares.

In keeping with the "Go Big or Go Home" theme of this build, I ordered this 6,000 watt power inverter today. Based on the specs, I should be able to run power tools, refrigerators, and maybe even microwave ovens on the trail - that's what I call roughing it! Seriously though, on the last Rubicon run, it took my 750 watt inverter about 2 hours to recharge my camera batteries - I'm thinking this one will be a lot faster.
Still, the ability to run a blender on the trail does sound fun for making beverages!
Here's a pic of the big boy inverter:

I had a 3500 watt invertor in my semi that I ran a microwave off of. The problem is going to be batteries. I was running 4 huge batteries and they would get drained pretty quick from the invertor. I ran all sorts of stuff including a shop vac off that 3500.

Actually, I forgot the most important reason Vince and I started carrying a power inverter - his portable welder is battery powered and is good for about 3 minutes of continuous welding. We've used it before on the trail (actually a casino parking lot in Lake Tahoe) and it lasted long enough, but I was always worried about what would happen if we ran out of juice and the welding job is not done. This inverter should be able to get the welder powered back up pretty quickly.
Vince had a good time this evening mounting his new 39" BFG Krawlers - well, at least just the spare, as we will be finishing the rest at the Higher Ground shop next Saturday. Which, of course, means that he's got five extra tires that he needs to get rid of. First dibs goes to the folks following this thread, but if no-one wants them, he will post them in the For Sale section later this week. He's got 5 Toyo Open Country MT tires in the 37x13.50x17 variety. Four of them have 50 to 60% thread left, and one has about 90% left. Vince is looking to get $600 for all 5 tires. If you want them, let him know by PM - he is "modestoperandi." Here's a few pics of the Toyos: If you want to see them in person, they will be at the Higher Ground shop in Sylmar next Saturday.
