Default 4low shifting

so i was off roading for the other day and actually go into a situation where i need for low and this was my first time really using it, and i have a feeling i was not shifting in right or like doing something right, because from first 2 sec like going up a hill i basicly stopped and then it jerked me forward, so i sorta feel stupid but is there a certain way your sup to shift when ur in 4wheel low?

to shift into 4LOW, you just have to slow down to less than 5MPH i think it is, shift into Neutral, and then shift the transfer case all the way down into 4LOW. That should take care of any problems at first and otherwise, just take it slow in low range.

I also have an automatic though so when you say you stopped and jerked before you went up the hill, it may have something to do with the manual transmission but i wouldnt know cause i have never driven one

you've just got to baby it with the clutch a little more and dont give it too much gas when letting out the clutch. Find the sweet spot where its about to engage and let it out really slowly from there. (just not so slow that you make toast).

there is a huge amount of torque available with the 4:1 xfer case. alot of times in 1st, you can creep over things without giving it gas. Shifting into second just requires a tender touch to avoid the jerks.

I have a six speed also and when u shift from gear to gear in 4lo its really jerky just baby everything when your in 4lo and it will be fine. it took me some time and im still not 100% used to driving in 4lo its like driving a whole new truck. and btw i like shiifting into 4lo doing like 2-3 and when u go to pull the lever from 4hi to 4lo just dont stop in the middle pull it all the way to the truck locks into 4lo

Yes, but it's much easier if you have the doors off, otherwise you will have to try to hang your ass out the window. If you have 1/2 doors, it won't be quite as bad, but doors off would be preferable.

Seriously though, like everyone else said- very slow roll, with the tranny in N, then shift the T-case into 4 lo. I'd add that shifting into 4 lo hasn't given me any trouble, but I did have a hard time shifting from 4 lo back up to 4 hi the first time.

Edit: N/M. I saw later on that you meant shifting gears with the tranny while the T-case was in 4 lo. I have an auto, so I can't help you there. In the old Cherokee we used to have, it wasn't hard to shift gears in 4 lo, but totally different vehicle.
