Default Auto vs Manual

I'm sure this topic is beaten to death at some point. What is better for Rock Crawling/off roading ? Auto or Manual.

Can someone point me to existing thread on this please.

Don't know of a thread on it but I'm sure there are some. I have a manual and love it. It's all personal preference I think. A auto is easier for sure on inclines. But first gear in a standard is lower. Transfer case has some to do with it also. If u have a rubi case 4:1 ratio you can just put it in 4 low and let off the clutch and go. If you do not touch the gas it will not die

How often you have to change your clutch?

Never so far. 62000 miles. Throwout bearing make a little noise sometimes after mud or deep water but it goes away

I have an automatic, but I'd go stick every time. The only reason I got an automatic is bc it was a dealer demo that was a good price. I wish I had a stick tho.

Make do with whichever one you prefer. The Jeep will be used for other things most of the time, anyway.

Manual here as well, its all I ever had. Auto is definitely easier but a manual is more fun once you get the hang of it IMO.....

Its all preference, I used to drive an auto 4runner and now a stick jk. I personally feel like I have more control off road but its likely just a mental thing...

I've been driving sports cars with 6 speeds for the last 7 years and got sick of it especially commuting in Cali. I'm loving this auto '12 Rubi! It's almost too easy to drive offroad but thats fine by me.

I had a manual TJ and loved in and now auto in a '12 JK and it is nice too. If you want to shift you can use the shifting feature of the auto just no clutch. I do that sometimes when I want to downshift quickly and pass or playing in sand to keep the RPM's up but I also have the 3.21 gears.
