deep woods ingenuity!
this is cool.
Hey for future reference. Bring a bar of soap and a knife too.
for punctured hole or a split in a gastank you can whittle a stick to fit the hole. Rub soap on the stick and tap the stick into the hole or split with a hammer or rock. The soap will not mix with the gas and will seal the stick keeping the gas from soaking into it and continueing to leak.
My grandfather taught me this trick. He split his tank on his toyota and had to hurry and plug it. it lasted like that until he made it to a town to get it patched 100Mi away.

believe me, we were cringing and treated that spring like a time bomb! Not something to take lightly, but it was what we had to do to make it out of the Maine woods. Did I mention that the fuel tank was also ruptured and leaking fuel? If we didn't fix the spring fast we would have run out of fuel. Time was not on our side

Here is a tip regarding a fuel leak.
Always carry a bar of Ivory soap. Rubbed over a small hole it will harden up and help get you out. An old trick, very. very old.

thinking the same thing. wish they would show this in syndication, i loved that show.
