Hmmm, the tech at my dealership said they could only disable it completely, and that I would have that light on, just like the switch mod. Maybe it's because I have an 07? Or maybe, the tech didn't know what he was talking about?

First Off If i was to shut off the ESP it would be for off road only.. Let me get this straight most people run there jeep in 4LO when wheelin in or out of mudd, I thought 4LO was for rocks and stuff not Mud. can you get enough wheel speed in the Mud in 4LO???? and also to be riding around on trails in 4LO I thought the gearing would be too low.

If the ESP works properly, it's not worth turning it off on the road. Where I live, I have a bunch of downhill and uphill tight turns on my daily drive. There are a few corners where it just always goes off and takes over. It's those times that it would be nice to turn it off..

I always use 4 hi on the trails and in the mud and switch to 4 lo when climbing big rocks. The esp works fine in 4hi and turns off in 4 lo, so it works well, just on road is bad because of the drive I have to take.

I am sorry guys. I read through this whole thread looking for the mod. Is it in the forum somewhere? I have an 07' skyjacker lift. Every friggin off\on ramp I hit it activates. Drove down Bigsur when I first got the lift on. Beautiful countryside, horrible drive. What do I need to do. I want to keep it on the vehicle but I do want to dis-able when I need to. BTW, this forum rocks!

I think the original writeup got deleted for legal reasons. The mod is easy to do though. The wire you are looking for is on the right side of the drivers side footwell. there is a bundle of wires going up the center stack. It'll be obvious when you get down there. you just have to stand on your head to see it. There will be a purple wire with a STRAIGHT LIGHT BLUE tracer. that's the one. there will also be a purple wire with a dark blue tracer and a purple wire with a spiral light blue tracer. That one is for the airbag. If you cut the wire with the straight blue tracer and then turn your key on the esp bas and abs lights should stay on. Now all you have to do is wire up a switch somewhere and you'll be set. to turn it all back on just flip the switch, but it won't actually reset until you restart the jeep.

Do at your own risk.

It sounded like he meant there was a new button in the 2010 for "off" but maybe he just meant the disable button that was always there.

The mod is easy to do and I don't think there should be any legal issues with it on a post since the dealer can now turn the esp completely off.

This is the best link I found for the writeup.

I read in a post somwhere that the dealer flashed there jeep and removed the ESP altogether. I kinda agree that the ESP works great as far as having it on the street. but If the dealer can flash it to remove it why cant they just make the ESP disable switch work fully to just turn it off when you want.
