Default Help with Warn Zeon 8000

First, I'd like to say, I've tried to perform a search for 2 days now. The website won't allow it. Some type of issue I guess.

I'm looking for a winch for my 2012 JKU automatic. Currently, I am running a "stock" system with stock tires. No lift at all. I am intending on ordering a front bumper soon. Possibly stepping up to 285/70/17 tires. I live in FL, and won't be rock crawling what so ever. It is just a desired accessory to have in case the mud gets too deep. I've been looking at the Zeon's. Please let me know if you feel these are nice winches that can be depended upon in the time of need. Also, is an 8000 pound version enough for my system? Thank you in advance.

Go with the 10k. In theory you should multiply the total weight of your jeep times 1.5, which would exceed 8000 pounds

I have the Zeon 10s on my JKU and its great option for those of us on the east coast with Mud and rain. You will want a sealed unit and synthetic is better for the rain and floats in water. I would also suggest some winching gear like a snatch block, shackles, and a tree saver.

Here is what you can expect with 285/70r17 a bumper + winch and no lift.

Then with 2.5" lift

Here is the write up I did on installing that bumper and winch.

ESPI,

When you had it stock ride height, did you need any wheel spacers with the stock rims? Is yours an automatic 3.6? If so, what mileage are you getting now with your 2.5" lift and tires? What gears are you running?

Thank you. Just to be clear, an 8000 is really not an option? Simply checking. I appreciate your input.

If you are getting 285/70r17 you will want spacers. I went with after market wheels 17x8.5" with a 5.2" backspace to keep the tread just under the fenders. I have a 2013 auto with 3.73 and right now with winter gas I am getting 15mpg, but I tend to do 75-80mph on the highway. Over the weekend I was got 17MPG keeping it under 65mph. I have been tracking my MPG since I got it and the best I got stock was 19mpg. and the worst 14mpg. Right now the winter fuel does not help.

You can get away with an 8000lb winch and if you are struggling, use a snatch block to double your pull. Also take a look at the layers and amount of pull you have. The 8000lb rating is at the first layer and the more layers you have the less pull. So if you use a snatch block it will give you less layers and double your pull.

I was dead set on an 8k, but some of the trucks I go out with are much heavier than me at ~7500lbs and in order to get them out I had to use my snatch block and strap myself to a tree.

Considering it's only a difference of $100, I'd say go with the Zeon 10, but I think you'd be fine with the 8. I think I'm going to spring for the 10-S soon.
