Default need help diagnosing winch problem please

Ok, to start with the embarrassing facts. 1. I installed a Warn M 8000 about a year ago. I have not used it yet 2. When I first installed it, I think that I flipped the cover over to make the wires easier to deal with. ?? 3. Since day one, it has had issues when i was trying to use it to attach the hook to the d ring.

It sort of was like it had a short of some sort. I had to insert the controller over and over to try to get it to work. I recently had to take it off and am unable to get it to work. I know this is a tough one, but i need to know where to start . Should I take the solenoid off and look for obvious loose connections? That would be logical. What next if I don't see any?

Suggestions appreciated. I will be working on this tomorrow. Thanks!

I am pretty sure it is. The ground is on the bottom of the winch correct? I ran that to the black terminal on the battery if I am not mistaken. I have not looked at it in a while...but that is what I remember.

I know on my Xrc10 they are "letter labeled" a busy of mine had his reversed and would not wind back up. Have you tried re-wiring it and possibly grounding it to the frame?

I would also try googling the wiring diagram as well or trouble shooting techniques for that warn as well.

Hope this helps a bit..

Note the ground ( small black wire) coming off the control box...

Also,,,I found the terminals which the controller plugs into on mine, had corroded and made a poor connection, I ended up hard wiring those..
