Ordering shock straps today, do I need D ring shackles?
Hey guys,
Amateur question, but I'm looking at (finally) getting some recovery gear.
http://www.northridge4x4.com/proddet...p?prod=ARB-710
is the strap I'm looking at.
I'm wondering if I need: http://www.northridge4x4.com/proddet...?prod=ARB-207B
Or if I can just connect the strap to my tow hooks.
Thanks, also if that strap sucks let me know so I can get a different one!

Do you need shackles if you have tow hooks front and rear?
No, the strap can be hooked directly to the hook just fine.
However, then you are absolutely relying on the other connection point having tow hooks or an available shackle to hook the other end to.
DO NOT make that assumption that the other person will always have such to either recover your Jeep, or you recover theirs.
Also no guarantees that it would be your Jeep hooking up to get another unstuck....you may not be in a position on the trail to do so, and simply be using your strap for another Jeep to pull another out.
Get two shackles to be safe for just such situations.
That is my opinion at least, you may get some other answers from others, but I think it is always better to have more equipment for a recovery than you need rather than to be lacking a connection point, and have problems making a recovery. Shackles relatively are cheap.
The strap is the same one I carry in my Jeep.
