Just because the guy right in front of you took a certain line, it may not be the best. I've been on runs and seen Jeep after Jeep take the same bad line as the Jeep in front of them. Give yourself enough space between yourself and the Jeep in front of you so you can in fact see what is the GOOD line and the line that you are COMFORTABLE with.

On this subject....
...is it annoying to you more experienced guys if us noobs always ask for a spotter? I don't "know my vehicle" just quite yet and during the process of learning it helps to get some guidance until I feel more comfortable on my own.

Best advice I could give is go with a buddy or a group until you get comfortable and then still it's more fun to go with a group. Kind of like scuba diving, having a dive-buddy can be priceless when a situation presents itself.

Anyone that would be bothered or upset at spotting you when you feel you need it, is not someone I would count on for help when things really go bad.
I'll spot you on a paved road, if you ask for a spot.
but we will chuckle about you behind your back.
same as you get to do when someone like me takes the bypass at the tiny little mud puddle, cause I hate mud!

Riding along with someone experienced is a great way to learn. Get out of the Jeep and act as a spotter. Note the lines they choose and how the Jeep reacts. Watching their suspension cycle through the rocks can really help you learn!
