Default replace d-rings?

anyone replace the d-rings on their rugged ridge bumpers?
i'd like something that screws off easier. sorta like on a shackle. or is that a bad idea? are the d-rings stronger and i should just carry a wrench to take 'em off?

thanks
steve

small crescent wrench is pretty handy for multiple uses. I have one of those and some good slip-joint pliers in my JK at all times.

hey goody..thanks.

i've started to carry a tool box in my jeep. i'm happy to un-wrench them if that's the smarted way to go. i've got a shackle attached to my trailer hitch and the unscrew pin is convenient.

is the general consensus that D-rings are stronger then regular shackles?

The term D-ring and shackle can sometimes be tossed around as the same thing. Do you have pictures of what you are referring to?

Doesn't look like it would matter to me. I think the D-rings on the bumper are wrenched in because they are meant to be there all the time.
The shackes that you screw in by hand are meant to be used and removed, otherwise they'll vibrate loose and disappear. Even when you use them you are supposed to turn them tight, then back off a little before tensioning on them, so they don't seize.

I know teraflex makes/sells some shackle mounts I've seen used to replace the RR D-rings. There was a pic on here recently of someone who'd used Purejeep shackle mounts also and bolted right up.

Personally, I'm on a quest to find 12g carrage bolt that I can use with a pin or something to be able and remove the RR rings when I need to use them.

Why wouldn't you just use a shackle to hook up to the one on the bumper? Or attach your cable with the hook/shackle that is on the winch cable? New to this so just curious. Thanks for any explanations...

wonder if the PJ shackles fit the RR bolt pattern??

is there a strength difference between a shackle or D-ring?
