replace d-rings?
The rugged ridge bumper wasn't designed to have those shackles removed and installed(bolt instead of pin). Carry a couple of extra D-rings and connect that to the factory mounted shackle as required. or for a snatch strap just thread it through on itself and throw the other end to another jeep to recover you.

It's confusing me the way people are using the two terms interchangeably.
why not get a shackle and use it to connect your d-rings on your rr bumper to the snatch strap or whatever? take less time and probably safer.
You asked which one is stronger... not sure if there is really an answer. D-rings and shackles are made in a variety of different strengths and sizes. most people use 3/4" shackles b/c thats what fits most bumpers and they are typically rated for a 8k to 10k workload.
