Hey everyone,

I just got back from a trip to the Indiana Badlands in Attica. I got myself into some pretty thick mud and had to get pulled out. I have a Rugged Ridge Rear bumper/tire carrier. Huge monster D-Rings on that thing, and that was one reason I bought it. So I run my strap through both rings and center it up hook it to my buddy's YJ. The first sign of any pull and my passenger's side broke free! The D-ring didn't, but the cast iron bracket holding it did. Here are some pics. So my question is this, did I get a bad bracket or are they are all like this? Does anyone know the rating on these? What ticks me off is Yeah, the D-rings are fat, but you are only as strong as your weakest point, and apparently I found it. Let me know your thoughts and comments. Thanks!

No, thank goodness. By running it through both and only one breaking we got lucky, or I could have seen a D-ring going through his windshield...just makes me a little gun shy next time. I guess I will just go with a D-ring in my hitch.

HUH...that makes me wonder about mine. I like their bumpers, but I've always been suspect of those rings since I have never seen any rating information on them. I've been looking for a way to replace them with standard clevis rings for a while.

Good news is, it's not a hard thing to replace. Eventually, I'll replace my RR D-rings and brackets with some aftermarket brackets like the Teraflex ones below.

Looks like low quality metal to me. This is unfortunate, since I want to support RR.

PM has been sent... We take this very seriously and will be getting the bad unit back to see just what might have happened. This is the first time I have seen this and will make sure we find out the exact cause.
Rating for the D-ring & mounting bracket is over 10,000lbs each.

Sometimes it does happen in the casting process, and i doubt they do a full metallurgy test etc on each one to make sure there are no metal imperfections. I can bet RR will be down the throat of their manufacture about it.

Just glad no one got hurt
