I don't think the tree's going to mind if you put a 2 inch strap on it's trunk, i'll have to ask next time

i use 20$ straps at work to rig 4k lb hunks of steel. and thats to suspend them in the air. they are rated for way more than that.
those straps should work fine to ease you out of a spot. i would use them to keep you from tipping off a clif.
