Using 3.5 inch parts for 2.5 inch parts
Hi, I have a 2012 2 Door JK that's all stock and im looking to put a lift on it. I have acquired 35 inch tires and a 4 inch lift that's missing some key essentials for smooth operation. Im not sure what the best route to go is because I don't want to be too high with just 35s and I don't wanna spend another $1,000 or more on parts if I don't haft too. I use my jeep as a daily driver but I want it to be an off road jeep as well. When I say off road I mean trails with mud and some rocky terrain to climb through. I live around the Fredericksburg VA so its not super hilly but will be moving to Harrisonburg in the next year. I got a great deal for my 4 inch lift but idk if its worth spending the extra money on the others parts for the risk of how high I will be off the ground. In the lift I have now I have: 4-3.5 lift kit inch spring coils, 4 bilstein shocks, upper and lower adjustable synergy control arms, teraflex front and rear track bars with the mounting bracket for the back and 4 35 inch tires. I wanna know if it would be worth it to buy smaller springs and just use what I have and make it a 2.5 inch lift or buy the remaining parts and make it a 4 inch lift. Ive read if I do that I need a tie rod and drag link which are about $800, bigger sway bar links, drive shaft extension, exhausted extension, break line extension and I need to regear as well. What am I missing if I go for 4 inches or will the 2.5 inch be better economically and safety?

That is a hecka lotta lift for a 2dr, and the higher you go the more things you really need to address. You haven't even accounted for drive shafts at that height. The control arms would be useful to have regardless of different springs or not, as would track bars and brackets. If you went with lower springs you might need to do different sway bar links. I'd say you'd have less aggravations staying lower, more like 2.5". When you go higher you're just raising that COG which isn't going to benefit you off road. Go as high as you need to accommodate the tire you want to use.

4" is a bad idea. Around Harrisonburg, you won't need it at all. I got by with 2.5" and 35's with no sweat. Going 4" will cost you quite a bit more in parts and frustration. Go with a properly designed 2.5" kit and ditch your current parts to someone else that can use them.

that's what I was thinking do you think I could use what I have now and ditch the springs for smaller ones and I already figured I have to buy sway bar links

Looking at your list above- no, ditch them all. The shocks will be too long and control arms aren't necessary at 2.5"....but could bring value for resale of the old parts.
Buy quality. Trying to "make it work" will cost you more in the long run. I've been there. Do it right.

Can you tell us what you paid? Also, are the Synergy arms the old style poly bushings or their newer DDM bushings? I don't necessarily disagree with Karl, but adjustable arms are nice to have if the build changes, the adjustable trackbars will work with any lift, and the rear raised bracket is needed regardless. The shocks would have to go with the springs as they'd likely be too long. IDK, I guess a lot depends on what your price was and what the arms have in em. It's just my 2c....or at least another perspective. If you have the jack to sell it and buy a brand new metalcloak 2.5" lift and upgrade the steering components, that is 100% the way to go.

I paid 1600 for all the parts with the tires and rims together. I think im going to go with a 2.5 inch lift then, I was very concerned about being so high up on a 2 door and this has reassured me. As great of a metal cloak lift sounds its not in my budget. The shocks are adjustable and I will be using those when I convert to the new lift.

2011 stock 2 door jk.
Went with the 3.5" Rough Country suspension lift kit, everything you need.
$529
And some friends to help you.
Went with 33"s because of the 3.21 gears.
Runs great, manual.
