Yes, you can switch. There are 2 options for the fairlead. 1, haws style. 2, synthetic rollers. Aparently 2 is cheaper. There are also more than a few synthetic rope manufacturers (amsteel blue, warn, smittybilt just to name a few) and you get what you pay for.

Most of the time you don't even need to change the fairlead.....
