I haven't even thought of that with the sleeves. That would bring a whole other level of storability to it. I may try to make it so they can be broken down to a size that can fit under the rear seat. Then it would not be any kind of nuisance to keep in the vehicle.

I have a metal chop saw so I could get like some 3/4"OD x 3/8"ID tubing and cut it into pieces a few inches long to use for sleeves. I guess 3/16 wall tube would be thick enough. Can't wait to start on this next weekend.

The only experience I have with this material is that I have a really good set of winter hunting boots that are made out of this and they are indestructable. I wear them when I ride AVTs and they've been through it all and look as good as the day i got them. As I understand it they are used on military issue boots. The website describs the mateiral as "back coated with a 3/4 ounce urethane coating." Sounds cool... In the picture the cordura is the portion of the boot upper that is not leather. Could be a nice material for when they are piled in the back of the jeep on top of each other and under a bunch of crap

I made my bikini top out of the coated nylon cordura. I like it. It's the same stuff the military seabags are made of.

I've thought about making doors too, but you know how the virgin projects can wind up costing much more than just buying the product. I think it would take a long time to figure out the subtle, "hard-to-plan for" hiccups that show up when you think you have it all figured out.

I'd still like to make some, but I'm leaning towards buying them and just tweaking as I want. Good luck and let us know how they turn out!

The best thing I have going for me is that I work for a metal distributor and can get the metal for free. My dad has the tools and welder so that won't cost anything. I'll build the frame before buying anything else. If I can do that I will get the fabric. If I can do that I'll buy the latch. If I get tripped up along the way I have no problem quitting. I definitely don't want a money pit.

The project is stalled because I've got a rancho rear bumper on the way to me that I'm going to install this weekend. Wanted to do it this past weekend but shipping got screwed up on it.

I have to keep an eye on this. I've been thinking about monkeyimg
With wood or PVC to come up with a cheap collapsable half door
Because I don't know Jack about working with metal

Mentally I picture flat bar with simple bends and drill a few holes for small bolts.

But I know Jack so ill look for more posts here.

sounds pretty slick... definitely like the storage properties of the concept you're talking about.
