is not possible to buy a used jk with crd from europe and ship back to the US for cheeper than a conversion...? what has to be done to the crd to make it legal in the states?
you can pick up a used jku crd with cat and dpf for around 19000 euros...today thats about 25000 dollars with 80000km...about 50000 miles. thats nothing for a diesel.
shipping cost average 2000 usd. import tax is around 3 percent...if i understand correctly.
is it that difficult to get it passed smog inspection in the US?? You cant tell me that a cummins or duramax in a heavy 3/4 ton are cleaner?

I LOVE the Jeep Wrangler, but Chrysler's business practices baffle me. Not sure why there hasn't been a Diesel JK out for years. It just makes sense. and $40k for a conversion? That is R&D pricing. Hell, even $25k is not realistic and it is pretty clear those in the business are not serious about it yet. For this to be a real option, it has to be a $5k upgrade. Would love to have a diesel myself, but the payoff has to be real or it will be as useless as the Hybrid Suburban. People aren't going to pay that much money for a conversation piece.
