did you have to machine down the ring gear
I used the Ballistic Fab kit, which included the machined ring gear - the kit removes just over 2.5" of material.

Here is a shot showing the diff whilst it was still sitting on the mill table

Had a couple of PM's wanting more pics of the rear end install....suspension links are Rock Krawler long arm, including the 8" stretch in the rear. ORI struts are mounted on all four corners, in the rear they are inboard of the chassis rails and come up behind the rear seats inside custom sheet metal enclosures. Panhard rods and brackets are custom fabricated.

How much is the ring gear shaved with that kit?

We've been playing with shaving the ring gears and testing breaking strength. The 4.10 stock 03 D-60 set broke a lot sooner than the stock 4.10 01 14 bolt did.

The tip of the crown around the ring gear is taken back 1/3" or so........how were you testing the strength, and what were the failure modes?

A friend with the ability and tools to do so was/is shaving the ring gears down and testing breaking strength under torque load as if in a truck. It is a slowly increased load till breaking point. He hasn't come up with a way to test shock load.
