Custom Dana 60 Rear options with electronics
So i have researched quite a bit but havent really found a certain axle that would be a good build.
I already have a kingpin dana 60 front with an 8x6.5 lug pattern. I really looking into the 14 bolt option and had everything set with one but now my mind has changed. a 14b takes away to much ground clearance and a FF 60 would be plenty strong for 40s which is all i will probably ever want to run. I see alot of people using sterling 10.5s but i just feel like that could be overkill for me and again looking for good ground clearance.
So my questions are:
What is a good donor axle to start with that can get electronics?
Is it an 8x6.5 lug pattern.

You can shave the 14b for pretty cheap if the only thing stopping you is the ground clearance thing. You can get the kit from Ballistic Fabrication.
As for the Dana 60 with electronics.... You will have to do some mods to get it working just like any other junkyard axles. 02 and older Dodge Trucks have Dana 60 or 70 and are 8x6.5. There may be a couple other options that come with the tone ring electronic setup, but only one I know of for sure is the newer Sterling. And you still have to change out the tone rings. JK tone rings are 52 teeth and Sterlings are 55.
Or you can just get a Dynatrac or Currie 60 ready to go for just over 2k.
Hope this helps.

14 bolt can be shaved for clearance with a Sawzall and grinder. If you want even more clearance they have shave kits. You cut off bottom of housing, weld in new peice, machine down ring gear.
I would have used a 14b but I bought my 60/sterling 10.5 as a set on the cheap.

I know you said 60, but my sterling has the same ground clearance as my front 60. If you want a 60 rear then look for a rear 60 out of the same year model truck you got your front 60. The electronics can be put on any 60 like I have done on my sterling and Miraz has done on his 14 bolt. Most junkyard rear 60s are 16 or 30 spline full float and not 35 spline, but you can drill out the spindle for a 35 spline shaft. Some 60s in ford vans did come with a 35 spline shaft, but they are offset to the passenger side. Good luck with your search, but I believe a 60 out of a 77.5-79 ford will have the width and work for what you want.
Get tone rings from dynatrac and get the hub machined and tone rings pressed on and your done.

Are folks really that concerned with where the pumpkin is located on donor axles? Retubing an axle isn't such a big deal... Not when your already considering tone rings, regearing, etc...

I don't think he was concerned about the centersection in relation to passenger or driver side, more in relation to the ground. Also retubing is not bas, it is the custom shafts that bite you in the ass.
