Default Do I really need D60s?

Just wondering if I really need to drop the $$$ on D60s? I am going to upgrade to 37s or maybe even 40s and wondering if my d44 rear and d30 in front will hold up. Any feedback from guys out there running 37s without doing the d60 upgrade?

I have an 07 Unlimited I've been running 37's with a 5.5 Rock Krawler mid-arm kit for a year and half. I live in Arizona and I do moderate offroading and rock krawling and have never had an issue. I currently running 3.73 gears and eventually want to upgrade to 5.13 gears but with an Air Raid exhaust throttle body kit, gibson exhaust and Hypertech Max it runs SWEET No complaints. So I say go for it.

I have been asking this same question and most people tell me that I need D60s since I'm looking at 37"s on 17" beadlock rims(Rockmonsters) and a 6.1 Hemi. I currently run D44s front and rear(Rubicon) with 5.13 gears.

I'll get everything else first before the D60s and hope for the best

I broke a drive shaft and had it replaced under warranty

I am running 37s and beadlocks..

and I can tell you, it's better to be safe than sorry!!

I say spend the cash now and sell the axles you have for a reasonable price!

instead of breaking your axles and trying to sell them for cheap and on top of that buy new axles!!

so I think you should get 60s asap if you plan on going 37"+ tires

How much can you sell your d44 axels for from your rubicon?

Considering the price on the mopar D44's went up and there may not be a huge supply of them, you could probably get a pretty good price. Take a look on quadratec at what they are asking for mopar d44's. You should be able to get pretty close to that. That will make a very decent dent in the cost of D60's.

I comes down to driving style. I have seen people break D60's with 36's before (not in a JK, but in J-Truck, video here (full float 30 spline D60): http://s71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...howitbroke.flv )

For the HWY, your stock axles will hold up ok most likely. But the D30 internals are sooooo tiny. If you are even consider 40" tires, don't even bother with the D30. Because it will never hold up offroad. Upgrade to D60's, make sure they have 35 spline shafts, and call it good.

I have Rubi with D44's front and rear. I'm so pissed at Jeep for putting a D44 under the back of a 4dr that can, and often is loaded up like a 3/4 ton PU. There is no excuse for it; especially at the small incremental cost to a manufacturer. Under the 2 dr it's ok. I have 35's and 5.13's and have broken front and rear CM shafts. So I'm in the camp of the 44's are marginal with 35's and anything bigger needs D60's front and rear. Unless you want to have to baby it.

Holy DAMN! The price on the D44's went way up. When I bought d44's for my X they were only about $1500 each. No wonder they were so quick to sell when I upgraded to D60's.
