Default Door Storage Solution....

Well....for WHEN I have my doors to store, I came up with this. Only two 1x6s, four universal brackets and mounting hardware from Lowes. All about 35 bucks.

When the racks are not in use, they can fold up out of the way, like this.

Red-sorry to be a pain in the ass, but, do you have any pics with the doors hanging on them-just for an idea of scale and area-any obvious stress on the 1x6's when the much heavier front doors are hanging them?-thanks for the hassle.-I really like this idea, and would like to execute, but of course prefer to learn from the trials of others!

I love the idea but the looks of that 1x6 and hardware makes me very nervous... do they sag when you put the doors on?

I don't have my Jeep because it's been in the shop 29 days so I have tried them yet. I can hang 50 pounds worth of weights on them fine, though.

Looks great, Red. But, it's really got to suck to want to work on your Jeep so bad that you start figuring out things to do around the home that are for the Jeep. Hope for your sake that they get your Jeep back to you before you run out of things to do!

I could be wrong, buy I think the stock doors weight in at around 75lbs each (with no power options). I like the idea and design, but I would definitely be careful the first time you attempt to use them.

You might be right....in which case I'll just go back with 2x4s.

I think that sounds high, unless I'm stronger than I think! I can take off my full front doors with power option by myself with very little fuss. I was thinking 40-50 pounds for the fronts?

I recall a post awhile back where someone weighed their fronts (with power windows) and came in at 64 lbs......FWIW.

Red I've thought about doing something like this but I would guess it would seriously start to give the rubber surrounds on the windows a workout. I'm thinking of something that supports them from the bottom with padding and has a strap that secures them on the top of the door.

Would love to know how the rubber window surround reacts to having the doors wait on them... if it will work this solutions seems much easier to pull off.
