Really? I had not heard that one before. I toasted the front diff on a YJ after several reverse yanks before I knew any better. I wonder if the configuration is any different.
The reason they pull in reverse is because of how the weight is distributed during the pull. If in reverse the front end lowers, thus lowing the back end as well. Giving the jeep better leverage and more traction. If the jeep tied in the rear then it tends to lower the back end but lift the front, not giving u full 4x4 traction.
