First trail ride, new '08 4dr Rubicon poser shots
Well went out to get the new Jeep dirty for the first time since it just rolled over 600 miles, figured now is a better time than ever since it was 70 deg here in northern va today. Went out to some trails just outside Charlottesville, VA. BUT it turns up they are closed trails from Jan thru Apr. Read nothing about it online. Well we had no intention of making a 1.5hr drive go to waste so we drove down some fire roads till we found a trail to go on. had alot of fun. Only thing I didn't like was having to slip the clutch to climb stuff in 4 hi. An 4 low was VERY hard to get to engage without alot of grinding and loud noises. Never had a xfer case so hard to get in lo range. Maybe it has to do with this one being a 4:!? Kinda scary the grinding it made. Well anyway here are the few pics I got today.

I'll have to ask the name of it. The guy in the dark red Xterra is a va4x4 member and has been out there before. Me and the other Xterra followed him out there. I believe it was in the George Washington National Park.

Glad you had a great time!!! Nice Jeep! (Yeah I got one just like it!) The owners manual has the best and easiest (read:no grinding) way to put her in 4 low...Have fun out there!!!

Ok it's the Bald Mountain Trail in the big levels area about 20 miles from charlottesville. Another we tried was kennedy ridge but it had a burm built up that we couldn't get over.

I tried it like the manual says, slow to about 5 mph and firmly pull back thru neutral and into 4 lo. I'll have to try it again and try and get used to it I guess.

I have the standard TC and I come to a complete stop while in neutral and clutch in I pull back. If it feels hard to go in I usually just nudge while in 1st and while it's still rolling alittle it usually pops right in.

I guess it is a little different for me, I am running the auto. I come to a complete stop, pull it all the way back into 4 lo. If it doesn't go in, I let off the brake and let it move just a little. She pops right in.
