flat black exterior
I saw the tony hawk jk bout a month ago and did some research; I called a few of the off- the-wall locals in phoenix and I also called the franchises. (macco, earl shie, mom/pop shops, body shops, etc - in all 6 facilities and 3 locals)
A true FLAT black paint is a 3 layer process, some say its 1 but it will buff over time to a gloss color similar to the stock color. I asked every one my options to make it appear dull and drab and they all told me I had chosen the most expensive paint.
A pint of the flat flat black paint is nearly $750 (their cost) and thats just for one of the 3 steps. Quotes averaged approx $3500 for exterior alone, They said add about another 2500 for the interior given all the work. Keep i mind the $3500 for exterior doesnt include the door jams.
I hope this helps, this humbled me very quikily. Now, the stock black has a certain appeal to it.
If money is no object....make sure its a 3 layer process and you get it done by a high quality place.

Personally, the only flat black cars I see driving around town are crappy Hondas ... Why would anyone want to paint their precious JK, TJ, or XJ flat? I never understood that ... Yes, glossy paint isn't as durable if you get down and dirty, but when it's clean, nothing looks better ...

I guess its just a matter of personal preference. I really like the look of the Tony Hawk JK...I also think a flat olive drab would look good as well. I do agree the "crappy" Honda's do look. well...crappy; but I think a JK would look great in a flat color paint....Someone with more money than me, please take the plunge!!!
This guys write all about "murdered out" rides with some photo's.
