To reduce heat in my JKs I installed speaker carpet from Walmart on the ceiling of my freedom tops. Works great in the summer when it doesnt get below 110 for weeks at a time!
On my 05 Unlimited I made panels for the ceiling in addition to the white topping. Used a layer of firewall insulation which has a foil side and is almost a half inch thick. Glued this to a sheet of one eigth thick Luan ply and on the other side a dark maroon fabric commonly used in boat cabins and on display panels. The material acts like one half of Velcro. So you could stick stuff like phone cases etc anywhere on the ceiling. Too bad I sold it before taking pics but I may do this to the JK after the tranny cooler and other stuff.

These glue on studs can be used on the ceiling of hardtops to mount panels and stuff. You usually have to cut the studs shorter and don't put one over your head.

My husband suggested I do this to my Jeep. Of course, this was AFTER I Herculined the entire hardtop and installed a Hothead headliner. That roof does get extremely hot.
Thanks for the pics. Good job.

I just saw your jeep today at an intersection in Perryville md. It looked odd being that I knew hardtops didn't come that way, with two tone paintjob. So I thought to myself "Why did they do that?" I then it came to me that it was done for heat reasons. Got on my jk forum app did a search and this was the first thing that came up. Small world. I will say though that if anyone is thinking bout doing it, it did look good and professional.
With summer coming up it's also good to revive a thread like this to keep everyone cool.

Do you still have the Jeep? How has the coating held up over the last few years?
