This is after a big rain, several really. It's Yellow River in Alabama and I can usually drive up to the light pole for river access.

just looking for peoples feeling on this ive talked two people out of rubicons already....dont throw me on the stake yet please..i just ''in my own opinion'' feel that if your gonna wheel your rig your changing most of the parts anyways upgrading gears, lockers, disconnects and axles so the only thing your not getting is a lower gear transfer case and RUBICON stickers correct?so for the $12,000 price difference i can get one hell of a transfer case right?ive seen so many rigs on here that everything FACTORY rubicon is no longer there except the stickers and some people even remove those!!!!im just looking for opinions not argumentsmaybe im just jelous because the wife said "WELL WATS WRONG WITH THAT ONE"no really i didnt want it for above stated reasons!!REALLYam i missing something let me know nicelythanks and just rember they are all jeeps, except that god aweful white dub one

Sorry Pal, but I wheel my jeep pretty hard and there is no need to upgrade anything... The only thing I added is an OME lift and add a couple skid plates underneath.... Lockers are great, gears perfect got to love the quick disconnect why would I change any of it. I think you are right, you are missing something.

I did a cost analysis of the Rubi loaded up, vs. a nicely loaded X model (ie, power pkg, NAV, etc). And when I was all done adding the cost of aftermarket parts to get the X up to the Rubi, I was easily at the same cost as the Rubi. Plus, I'm sure I would have spent more than I estimated (which is ok, cause maybe I'm spending more on my Rubi than I expected).

But don't forget this: the factory lockers, swaybar disco, 4:1 T-case, 4.10 gears, are ALL covered by my upgraded LIFETIME bumper to bumper warranty!!! (Yes, some guys updgrade the gears anyway, but at this point, I don't intend to.)

Plus, I get all the Rubi goodies FROM DAY ONE, as opposed to having to save up for the installations over years. And it's all financed (for better or worse on that one).

But to your point, if someone was building a serious rig, changing gears, adding air lockers, upgrading the axles, etc, then yes, may as well start with a stripper! Mine is also a DD'er, so I'm enjoying it from day one.

Opinions are like asses, everyone's got one!. Or, there's an ass for every seat. It's all good!

I wheel the heck out of RubyDoo. I have not changed much at all, read my signature. Gears were done to compensate for tires, stock bumpers were just plastic.

I try to talk a lot of people out of Rubicon. Why? Because most folks do not even take their Jeeps off-road, let alone wheel them! So why pay the extra price if you aren't going to use it?

I bought the Rubicon because I intend to wheel it - maybe not so hard as some folks on this thread/board, but I do wheel. For example, just 2 weeks after purchasing, I had already scuffed up the front bumper by climbing on the edge of the rock garden at our local 600 acre OHV park! I didn't go across because I didn't have the underneath protection (skid plates) necessary to minimize damage (it's my daily driver and my employer is pretty tough about not coming to work!).

I now have tyhe underneath protect ion have have gone across the rock garden with minimal damage - just a big dent in the left end of the front bumper.

When I damaged the front bumper 2 weeks after I got it, my reaction was - I bought the Rubicon to wheel it so it's going to get damaged eventually! Just last week I put a small - maybe 2 inch dent in the passenger door. Seems a tree wanted my door! I won!!!!!

I agree - if you are gong to upgrade parts, don't spend extra upfront.
However, having said, that, I don't plan on doing much in upgrades as I'm quite happy with the way the factory equipped the Rubi! I will be adding a small lift and going with 35" tires eventually, but right now if's just fine.

In fact, last weekend I showed up several modified rigs. They were attempting to climb this hill. We all went as far as we coiuld and then were winched the remaining way. I went further than any of them. I could have probably made it all the way except it started sliding sideways - down the hill - and there awas a decent drop off. They were impressed how far I got in a stock rig! YAH FOR THE RUBI!!!

$12K more for the Rubi than the X or Sahara???? Someone is really inflating the prices! Although I did not look at the price of an X or Sahara, I just went for the top of the line and haven't regretted it - yet!
