There are no access fees/permits for Anza Borrego Desert State Park. The camping fees would be only for developed campgrounds. There are some backcountry campsites that are fee free. In fact, you'll pass one on the way out to Sandstone Canyon. If you'd like a route file (.gpx) for my trip to ABDSP last November, PM me an e-mail address and I'll send it to you. It will include the routes on my ABDSP videos (see below). The .gpx file can be opened in Google Earth to view the route. Many GPS devices can also import it so that you can follow the route.

It is beautiful there. I used to spend 2-3 weeks there training every March before starting my racing season (road bike). I would stay in Cherokee, North Carolina and ride up over to Gatlinburg, Tennessee. It was about a 75 mile round trip. Added more miles heading up to Clingman's Dome. Miss those times.
