KevinMac's Semi-Budget Build...Project Deathstar
Sounds like a roadtrip to Chi-town is in order this summer then! Its only a 4 hour jaunt from the D.
In other news, I am happy to report that there is 0 additional wind noise from the Arb awning. I have it mounted on the passenger side of vehicle and it is quite quiet...except for 1 thing...the zipper pulls!
They rattle like crazy! That was an easy fix though, I just repositioned them to the rear of the Jeep and now you cant really hear them.

I took delivery of my Superchips Flashpaq yesterday and I can tell you right away this is a powerful tool!
After pulling it out of the box, I downloaded Spark to my home PC then set it to do an update. This went flawlessly and took about 15 minutes to perform. I then hopped outside and plugged it into my OBD port. The Flashpaq is the higher end model that allows for setting changes as well as various engine tune ups.
For now, I have only played with the setting changes. Within 15 minutes I had:
- Turned on the option to have the fog lights on with high beams (typically an export-only option from Jeep)
- Turned on the "3 blinks" option to force the turn signal to blink 3 times for lane changes.
- Cleared my DTC's (I had many from when I had the HVAC system disassebled to add the ATC)
- Adjusted for my new tire height (according to my handheld GPS, my speedo was slow by about 4.7mph)
The final option I wanted to add was the TPMS delete as I didnt put sensors in the Pintlers I added a few weeks back. However, the Flashpaq needs to be married to a vehicle VIN before you can download that option from the Spark interface on your PC. After I added the (4) options above, my VIN had already been married so I popped back into the house and downloaded that update to the Flashpaq. Once again, it took about 10 minutes.
Back down to the Jeep and a few key sequences later, the TPMS light on the dash is gone! I love it!!
Next up this weekend will be playing with the tunes to see what they can do....stay TUNEd!
- Costs:
* Superchips Flashpaq - $288 (thanks to the Northridge forum discount)

I plan on adding a premium evic cluster at some point. Did you replace one?? Im still trying to find some place local to me who can correct mileage when I do get one. The dealer will not do that.
I haven't yet. But, from the preliminary reading I've done on it, it may be possible. I found a forum where guys had luck with adding it to their Dart's. At least I think it was the Dart, I have a bookmark on my PC at home to reference should I decide to give it a shot. Adding options is like a puzzle to me, I like the challenge.

After going back and forth, I went ahead and added a tune today!
I read several horror stories on this and other Jeep forums where people 'bricked' their '13 and '14 Jeeps using the Flashpaq. I am happy to report that I had no issues in the programming.
The directions that came with the Flashpaq are a bit vague in describing the steps the unit will go through during programming. First off, the whole process takes about 25 minutes so plan accordingly. It will start by downloading 2 files from the ECU. The first takes a lot longer to read than the 2nd. After that, it will ask you to turn the ignition on and off a couple of times. It will then begin writing the new programs back to the ECU. What the directions fail to tell you is that even though it downloaded and backed up 2 files, it will actually create and upload 4 files.
I fully expected the thing to be ready after the 2nd was uploaded and was holding my breath when it did a 3rd and yet a 4th! After another round of ignition on and off sequences, I turned the key and it fired right up!
I loaded the Mileage XS tune which is setup for maximum mpg using 87 octane. I took it for a test drive and all seems well. The proof will be in the data, let's see what kind of improvements it makes over the next tank of gas!

Also, a quick update on the Arb Awning. I set it up this morning for the first time and it is a pretty slick system. It seems well made and fairly easy to setup by myself, although a 2nd set of hands would have made it way easier!
I put it up in about 5 minutes but threw the directions out and just followed the video link below. The only thing I didn't love about it is there are pin holes where the velcro was sewed onto the awning. I expect these to leak in the rain, time will tell!!
