My home built rear bumper and tire carrier
After going back and forth between 6 different types of rear bumpers and not liking the price of any of them I finally said to hell with it and built my own! I got another member to translate my crude sketches into CAD and I had the pieces laser cut and bent. After a few curse words, some on the fly fabbing and modifying I finally have my completed rear bumper (minus bed liner which is being put on next week)
Custom cut out I designed for it. This will eventually be lit from behind with waterproof LED's

Frame mounts and D-Ring shackle mounts. Shackle mounts are also triple pass welded front and rear to the bumper

Test fit, looks good.

Figuring out tire carrier arm and latch setup. I was shipped the wrong latch so I had to fab this up on the fly.

New latch assembly welded in place

Rough assembly completed, ready for install.

All mounted up with tire!

Since these pictures were taken I've added a hi-lift mount and added some extra supports underneath as it kept wanting to tilt due to the weight and bouncing off road. It's been solid ever since so it's ready for bed lining next week...just need to clean off some of the surface rust now, stupid mud and water
I had built it with the idea of saving some money, and while it was cheaper than the comparable mass produced ones, it was only marginally so. materials alone I'm in to the bumper for $925, by the time you factor in labor I'm not really ahead anything except I can say I built this myself

Thanks! I purchased a heavy duty spindle from an online fab shop (A-Z Fabrications) along with the tire mounting plate and lugs and the latch. I had ordered a 90 degree vertical latch but got a horizontal instead. They offered to exchange but I'm impatient and made it work lol.
Thanks guys. Believe it or not it's my second fabrication project lol. First one was an RTI Ramp for our club under supervision of a friend that's a welder. Guess I have a knack for it
