No issues yet. Haven't been on a trail ride yet. I'll report back after this weekends EastCoast meet. http://www.shinyblue.com/jeepix/baby...dmuffler12.JPG http://www.shinyblue.com/jeepix/baby...dmuffler07.JPG http://www.shinyblue.com/jeepix/DSCN0200_resize.jpg |

I am thinking of doing the same thing - 33s with no lift (at least not for several months). I have a black Unlimited X and have been considering wheel/tire combos just like jared1843 and ozmonkey.
Jared - how do your tires ride? Did you have rubbing issues before your lift? What backspacing are those Soft 8s? Do your tires stick out from the fenders? ozmonkey - yours looks great as well. When I was planning on buying a Sahara, I was set on the same wheels/tires you are running. Going to the X with unpainted fenders, I am rethinking the wheels and may go Soft 8 or even Pro Comp Streetlok. |
The tires ride great. I have had no complaints. They have only a small amount of on-road noise. They stick out of the fenders, but only an inch or less. The cragers have 5" of backspacing, and I had no rubbing issues without the lift.

Here's mine, 285/75/16's (32.8"x11.4"), no rubbing issues at all (4.6" back spacing):
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/b...0709210176.jpg http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/b...0709210178.jpg I was planning on a lift but now I think I'll leave it be until the 3yr/36k warranty is over. Don't want to hear the dealer try to blame the lift when the radio craps out!!:rotflmao1: Al |
is the 4.6 backspacing something that you have to have and do the wheels come in different backspacing?
|
Mine are 265/75R16 (about 32"x10.50") and at full flex you couldn't slide a piece of paper between the tire and the inner fender. Might be my wheels making the tires stick out a little, but I think I'm at my limit with no lift.

Any thoughts on why some people with 33s no lift have rubbing and some dont? Is it wheel size or slight differences in tire size from each manuf. etc.

Does 32" with a width of 11.5 or 12 have the same issues as 33" (rubbing, fenderwell when flexed, etc)
|
Stock rims need spacers. My ProComps have 4.5 backspacing, no rubbing with the airdam.

Here are my Dunlop Mud Rover's. When measured they come up to about 33. I would have to go look again to make sure of the exact measurement.

I need help guys!! I am trying to deside on tires. At first I was looking 265/75/16's After reading a few posts, I have been looking at 285/75/16's From what I have read some guys are running 33's with little or no rub. I have no plans for a lift and was thinking of staying with the stock rims.
My Jeep is mainly a daily driver, but when I do go to play I want to have something that is capable. I had Bridgestone Revo's on my Cj7 and loved them. I was going to go with them again. I have researched different tires on tirerack but I would like to hear reviews from you guys here. So here are my Questions: 1) What Back spacing do I need on the stock rims to run 285/75/16's? 2) What brand of spacers do you run or recommend? 3) What width are the stock rims rated for? 4) Does anyone else run Revo's? How are they? 5) Anything other tires I should be looking into? Thanks Chris |

Cooper STT 285-75-16's on Cragar 16x8's with 5" of backspacing. No rubs. No lift.
http://www.eriejeeppeople.com/ejpfor..._170_17425.jpg http://www.eriejeeppeople.com/ejpfor..._170_25476.jpg The Jeep had tire pressure sensors that were removed for the new rims. No big deal, but the low pressure warning light stays on now. |

http://my.project-jk.com/data/505/medium/IMG_29831.jpg http://my.project-jk.com/data/823/medium/IMG_3360.jpg I am more than likely going with Toyo M/T's when I get my 08 Wrangler unlimited. I have run the Toyo M/T's on my Dodge CTD and they have been great for wear and the noise factor are not bad for a Mudder....but I really don't hear to much with my free flow muffler & exhaust & turbo whistle kind of drown out the hum in my CTD! WIFE hates the turbo whistle (silencer removed). How are the Toyo M/T's for road noise in the JK? I am thinking this root if I get a Mud Terrain tire but plan on getting either 16 or 17 inch aftermarket rims. If I go the all-terrain root I will be looking at the D*ck Cepek FC-II's as I was impressed with wear & off-road capabilities before I got sold on the Toyo M/T's for my CTD. You have no rub issues on the stock stance and spacers? Did you remove the air dam??? Notice any power loss with 33x12.5???? Any fuel mileage lose??? What rear end do you have 3:73 or 4:10? |

Love the Toyos, have only run BFG M/Ts in the past so that's all I can compare to. Much, much quieter that the BFGs, no howl, no ribbing (only when I'm backing out of my driveway can I feel the treads). The Toyo tread design is closer together so less space between treads, less noise. No issues, I was unsure about the 1" spacers when I ordered them, I didn't want the tires bumped out too far out of the fenders (hard enough keeping black clean) also seemed like everyone else was running 1.5", the 1" fixed the rub completely. Didn't try to remove the front air dam, pretty sure it was rubbing on the tie rods. No noticeable power loss (never had much power to begin with), same with the mileage, it's always pretty much sucked, I do drive aggressive and don't really monitor mpg, it'll make you crazy. I have 4.10 gears with an auto, thinking about upgrading to 4.88s for a little more off-the-line power. I do a lot of around town driving and want more pick-up. |

33 inches fits under the brake light with no modification what-so-ever.
Depending on the backspacing, there may be more of a gap between the gate and the tire though. |
