Roof rack
Has anyone built their own roof rack? I'm thinking of building one similar to the Gobi but with a few mods of course. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Yep. I am guilty of considering the same project myself. It wouldn't be a hard project to tackle. You could put something together that is sturdy and bolts to the frame or A-pillar instead of the sheet metal. That way it could hold a lot more than the quoted 100 pounds or so of stuff.
Mods....light tabs, shovel mount, hi-lift mount, folding access ladder, 50-cal mount. You get the picture...the sky's the limit! I saw a DIY mod on this forum that used an old trampoline carcass to make a sun screen bikini top of sorts. That could be easily integrated into something like this and would be very useful during the upcoming summer months.

.50 cal check. I am picking up my new welder tomorrow. I will make sure to post lots of pics as soon as I get started. I'm thinking of adding some outside speaker mounts too.

No not yet. I'm still waiting on the bender. Plus I've been practicing my welding. I want to make sure I can lay down a quality bead before I embark on this project. I will post pics as soon as I start.

The miller 211 w/autoset. It's real nice. I just have to get the 220v wired in my garage. Right now I'm practicing with the 110. It has the ability to do both.
