saved a turtle while on the trail
Way to go atomicmecha!!
Too bad these stories aren't told by the greenies... They think we're all like the Ford driver.
Just a reminder to all the desert goers:
Desert tortoises are a little more finicky than the colorful turtles out east. You shouldn't pick the tortoises up. They could throw up their supply of water as a defense mechanism which will kill them in hot weather. Instead, you've got to drive around them, or wait it out. My club waited an hour for one to move off the Mojave Road a couple of years ago. It's amazing to me that they get as big as they do since they live out in the dry dirt.

Agreed. That poor thing didn't stand a chance.
We were sitting at a red light a few days ago and I noticed a turtle crossing the road and almost as soon as I formed the thought that I should circle around and try to get him off the road an F-350 4x4 nailed him. It sounded pretty bad.

what is it about me and saving animals? i think i got this from my mom. my mom would always find sick animals and nurse them back to health and for that reason animals seemed to just be attracted to her, and i think part of that wore off on me.
we had a really bad thunder storm tonight and i was out on my balcony watching it and noticed a wierd bird in the tree. so, got my camera, zoomed in on it and took a picture. turns out, its a pariot, or thats what it looked like. i was like whoa... why is a pariot out in the rain? hmm...

anyway, went back inside, and an hour later looked out again at the tree to see if it was still there and nope. suddenly i hear this faint "chirp" and look down on my balcony and who's cowering in the corner soaking wet? mr pariot. so i got some bread and slowly approached him and got him to eat a little bread which was enough for him to get on my fingers and let me bring him inside. so, after a quick trip a local store for some bird seeds and getting him all dried off. got a little dish of food and water for him, and built a jerry ridged cage for him till i can either find his owner or get a decent cage for him. and he's taken a liking to me. he will start chirping if i leave his sight and he doesn't want to get off my sholder. and i've been doing some reading online to see how i'm supose to take care of him. He's not a pariot (if its even a "he"), its a cockatiel.
so whats up with me rescueing animals today? this is two in a row...

Way Cool!
There are large flocks of green parrots in Dallas (White Rock area is where I've seen them). Some say they are here because they have escaped from bird stores or pet owners. Others maintain they have migrated to this area out of Central America, or via traffic due to NAFTA.
I don't know. I just know I like it when I see them
