Cool Tranny cooler install... done a bit different

Hey y'all,

Sharing how I installed my tranny cooler tucked lower and closer than most. I hope to keep more undisturbed air flowing through the radiator mounted like this as well as good flow through the tranny cooler by having it ~1/4" from the A/C condenser. Also I did away with the factory crimp connectors and mounted the lines direct, worked perfect with the 3/8" hose that came with the cooler( I did have to buy 3 more feet of hose). The brackets I made are 9/16" x 1/8" steel and very solid, the cooler doesn't budge

that thing is huge! You're never going to overheat the tranny with that setup

Love how it turned out Jon! I'm looking at the new psc bracket and cooler which allows a tranny cooler to be mounted opposite the hydro-assist cooler.
here's a pic from their site...

Cool

Hi Frank,

I'm looking at the cooling a bit differently than most folks. If you look where I placed my tranny cooler it only covers about 30% of the radiator and 50% of the stock tranny cooler. This means around 70% of the radiator is getting clear unheated air allowing it to still work efficiently. Most folks have their aftermarket cooler blocking(preheating & disturbed air flow) at least 50% of the air going to the radiator, the PSC double mount is blocking 100% of clear unheated air to the radiator. Also it is best to have the radiators, condenser, tranny cooler as close as possible to each other for the least amount of air flow disturbance. Exactly how all this translates to cooling numbers I'm not sure. I'm just shooting for the best balance of air flow & cooling, allowing only so much room to make it all happen.

My 2 cents from the peanut gallery

Jon aka 69mach1

And this is why I put it in the "JK modified" section to begin with to get people thinking there might be a better way... but now it's burried in the "show & tell"

Hey Jon - I see your point but to be honest I'm running the Aeroforce tech gauge and have monitored the water temps for a while now. While my tranny cooler does obstruct like most do the hottest the temps have ever gotten has been 220 climbing in ambient tempertures of 116 degrees and we had our three teenages in back and AC cranking. This might not be the same when I add the psc cooler but who knows.

Good food for thought and I might have to do something along similar lines if the temps run hotter after the additional cooler is installed.

Very "cool"! At least you have been monitoring your temps and in that case go forward with the dual cooler I would love to add the PSC ram steering in the future, seem to be running short of the green stuff at the moment
