I can't decide whether or not the hard top looks too square. Soft top definitely looks better, but up here in the frozen north a hard top will be necessary for several months of the year.

Sorry but these pics were taken by somebody else and I'm linking them from his server. Unfortuantely, I think these are as good as they get.

Why?

I've run just soft tops for years here in New England. The old CJ7 wasn't great when it was really cold (below zero F) but since 87 and the Wrangler, once the vehicle was warm, the heater always made the interior nice and toasty.

I did a trip over Jefferson Notch in January of 1991 in a Wrangler with a soft top. The temps were -15 and I was very comfortable. If fact, I had to dress down in the vehicle or I would start to sweat. I had to keep the air flow on high to keep the rear windows from fogging, but otherwise it wasn't any problem.

I usually replace the top (or recently just the windows - thanks Bestop) every 3-4 years.

Soft tops are very easy to get snow off, you get in and bang it off from the inside and ice on the windows? Same drill. Never had one crack on me. My biggest complaint was the rub marks I'd get. The rear roll-up got them where the tie up straps sat, and the doors got them where I'd lay the window on the door inside. I eliminated a lot of the wear and tear by just taking the whole top off in the summer from about Memorial day to Columbus day. I still remember driving to work in just a Bikini top with temps below 50 degrees, heat blasting and wearing a windbraker. Yea, it was cool, but its a Jeep!

My JK will be a soft top half door (and most of the summer, no-door as i take the door mounted mirrors off and put on old CJ7 style mirrors)

my 2 current jeeps are both hardtops and I'm too lazy (got no place to put it) to take the tops off, so I'm thinking maybe the new one will be a soft top only.
