If you drill out the holes a little more, you can use rivets like I did. Didn't want to chance the screws which is what happened to you. You also have to trim inside the bracket a little to get the rivet and rivet gun head to fit in the space within the brackets. Dreamed tool works great. Just an idea if you're not happy with the screws.
