Default Wheels within the fender photos

Hi everyone, I'm a long time reader but first time poster and I have just purchased a stock standard Jk Unlimited which I intend to modify. I have an ARB bar & driving lights being fitted this week and a lift kit has just been ordered, however I'm having a few problems with wheel selection.

Like most forum members, I'm trying to achieve a wide stance for my vehicle, but in Australia ( where I'm located ) tyres are not allowed to protrude past the fenders which makes all those great looking 17 X 8 wheels with a 4.5 " backspace out of the question - Now the obvious solution is to put on wider fenders, but unfortunately my budget ( okay, okay my wife) won't allow it and to add to my frustration, in Australia it is also illegal to use wheel spacers so i can't even space out the stock wheels to get the "stance".

So what I'm chasing is pictures and description of wheels that will bring your tires at least to the edge of the fender (or just a little bit past the edge if it is not real noticeable).

I'm thinking a 17 x 8 with a 5 inch backspace may do it ....? Hope you guys can offer some alternatives as there are a lot of Aussie Jeepers looking for ideas !!

here are a couple of pics of what 285/75/16 tires on 16x8, 5 inch backspaced wheels look like.

actually, the pic of the rear wheel is more accurate as the rear axle is centered due to the track bar relocation bracket that came with the lift kit.

the front axle shifted just a bit and the side the pic is of is the side that the wheel sticks out a bit more on than the other side.

hope that makes sense.

Default 16x8 4.5 in Backspacing

Here is a picture of mine. 16x8 wheels with 4.5 in backspacing. My axles are not centered (2.5 in BB) so it is best to take an average of the two pictures below.

and

Pro Comp 7089s and Pro Comp Xtreme All-Terrains 315/75R16

Hope this helps

I'm jealous !! Initially, I really wanted to get the 7289 cast blast Procomps, unfortunately, the 4.5 back space was just not enough - as your photos prove - they are just a bit to noticeable

I know how pedantic it sounds running a tyre a half inch to an inch outside the fender but over here if your unlucky enough to get pulled over by a cop who has had a bad nights sleep you may find yourself with a defect notice and a +$200 fine and having to revert your car back to tires within the fenders. I'm sure the average cop probably couldn't care less but I wouldn't want to appear to be too arrogant with my rig. The vehicle laws we have here at the moment are supposedly designed to save lives and as such, they are making it more and more difficult to modify vehicles much beyond original manufacturer specifications..............

Here's some 315/75R16s on 16x8, 4.25BS RCX Steel Wheels. They're just a touch outside the fenders.
