I have seen a couple JK's that got the paint on the hinges damaged from not being careful when taking the doors off.... Did you buy it Brand New? I have even seen one that came back from a body shop and the body shop didnt take the door off when they painted then as soon as that door got used......CRACK goes the paint.

I've had he same thing (rock chips on the door hinges) - I got some touch up paint to prevent rust, then just have black electrical tape over the hinges. Cheap, but seems to work. I've seen other posts of folks using skateboard grip tape or no skid tape (used for steps around the house). Rugged Ridge also just came out with plastic hinge cover.
I also got the Mopar enhanced Rock rails - seems to block the kick-up a bit.

Well...
since we're talking paint (or the lack there of)....
Here is the latest in my saga for a 2007....
Mine has been in many times....
The latest is that they will repaint my entire Jeep BUT it will probably take about a month at which point I will be out of a vehicle but since I don't have an extended warranty.
Doesn't seem like much of a point as the paint is more of a corrosion issue that is warrantied from a different area once that goes anyway....
Oh well.... bottom line - I can't give it up for a month so it will just have to corrode and then they can deal with it then ....
.....and provide me a replacement for much longer during their repair!!

i live in alabama, and just about everywhere i ride there is red clay/chirt.
both of my doors and door hinges have rock chips from rocks flying off the wheels against the jeep.
the first time it happened i had the single indian tear...now i just plan on taking it by the ding/chip repair guy at the stealership once a year and let him touch up...

YES, ROCKS ARE THROWN BACK OFF THE TIRE TREADS AND THEY DO CHIP THE HELL OUT OF THE REAR HINGES. GET ROCK RAILS OR A SET OF STEPS. FLAPS JUST DON'T SEEM RIGHT ON A WRANGLER. THE FOURTH OPTION IS A BOTTLE OF TOUCHUP PAINT AND A CRYING TOWEL, CAUSE UNPROTECTED THEY ARE GOING TO CHIP. HELL, BRANCH SCRAPES AND ROCK CHIPS ARE BADGES OF HONOR FOR A DAMNED JEEP!!!!!!!! GOOD LUCK AND GOOD WHEELING!!!!!!
